Blending Accessibility, Quiet Operation, and Aesthetics: Electric Gates for Public Cultural Venues

Public libraries and cultural centers are more than just buildings—they’re spaces for community engagement, learning, and creativity. For a provincial public library & cultural center in Guangdong Province, this meant their entrance needed to balance three key priorities: security for daily visitors and large-scale events, accessibility for all (including wheelchair users), and a design that complemented the center’s contemporary architectural style.​

The center’s previous entrance failed on multiple fronts: it lacked a dedicated accessible passage, its loud motor disrupted the library’s peaceful environment, and its clunky design clashed with the building’s glass-and-steel exterior. Worse, it struggled to handle the flow of 1,000+ attendees during large-scale exhibitions and lectures, leading to long lines and frustrated visitors.​

Our solution was a customized 10-meter trackless sliding gate designed with public cultural spaces in mind. We added a slow-start/slow-stop function and adjustable opening speed (0.8-1.0m/s) to accommodate crowds, plus a dedicated accessible passage with remote control for wheelchair users. To preserve the library’s quiet atmosphere, we equipped the gate with a noise-free motor (operating at ≤45dB)—quieter than a normal conversation. The matte black finish and minimalist design blended seamlessly with the building’s exterior, while integration with the center’s visitor registration system (QR code scan + ID verification) ensured secure, efficient access.​

Since installation, the gate has flawlessly accommodated over 50 large-scale events, with access control accuracy reaching 100%. Visitors and staff alike appreciate the seamless flow, accessible design, and quiet operation—elements that align perfectly with the center’s mission to be an inclusive, welcoming space.
